John Beckwith has been appointed Group Director of Human Resources by Braemar, a global advisor in maritime investment, chartering, and risk management. In his new position, he will oversee HR initiatives that all fourteen offices worldwide will adopt and implement.
With Beckwith’s expertise in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), the hiring decision will improve Braemar’s leadership team and enable the 50-year-old business to grow organically as well as through M&A.
Throughout his career, Beckwith has served as the people/HR subject-matter expert on numerous mergers, demergers, and acquisitions, including an IPO process. He has been in the human resources field for two decades and is renowned for his work with several broking companies.
In addition to having hired and developed a large number of commercial front office and marketing teams, Beckwith is well-versed in financial services legislation and corporate governance. He was the Head of HR at ED&F Man Capital Markets in London, UK, before joining Braemar. His past employers include MF Global, Clarkson-Platou, and OEC Connection.
According to Tris Simmonds, COO of Braemar, “We have optimized our business structure and we’re well positioned for development and consolidated growth following the divestiture of our non-core assets, the debut of our new brand, and our goal to quadruple the underlying operating profit by 2024. We’ll need to hire wisely if we want to grow by those goals.
We will need John’s expertise in M&A and restructuring as well as his skill at navigating environments with a lot of change if we want to take full advantage of the current chances for growth.
Beckwith is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) (CMI).
