LinkedIn, which is a professional networking platform, launched the first edition of the ‘Future of Talent’ report which analyzes the role of HR in India. It is aimed at studying how talent is hired in India, engaged with, and developed in the new and evolving business environment. It was evident from the report that maximum companies in India are looking to fill open roles internally.
According to the report, when hiring internally, top skills companies look for before proceeding is time management, excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills. “Diving deeper into the reasons for this surge in internal hiring, the report shows that 7 in 10 companies in India hire internally to gain an insider’s perspective or a sense of progress,” stated the report.
HR to play a much bigger role besides hiring in the post-pandemic era
In 2020, it was found out that the rate of attrition amongst employees in India increased 1.5 times as they were finding it difficult to battle longer work shifts due to working remotely.
With the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in full force, 9 in 10 companies agree that HR will now play a bigger role in determining the future of the company by hiring efficient talent and shaping future strategies to better streamline the company’s business.
During these tough times, the HR professionals are constantly emphasizing the need for more employee engagement as remote working is becoming a continuing trend in India. According to the report, 85% of companies in India are already engaged in increasing employee engagement activities.
Ruchee Anand, Director – Talent and Learning Solutions, India at LinkedIn said, “As remote work continues to disrupt the way we work, HR will play a greater role in helping companies absorb new hiring trends to build the future of talent. In 2021, India will see more companies merge roles, upskill their employees, and hire internally to maximize business growth without expanding operational costs. Data-led hiring practices will also play a critical role in helping companies engage with their employees, attract the right talent, and hire more effectively in 2021. It’s evident that companies today are realizing that businesses succeed when their people succeed.”
Attracting and accumulating the correct talent pool
Most of the companies in India have realized by now that having a dominant social media and web presence is important. Therefore, companies are now focusing on building a good brand image to attract and accumulate a suitable talent pool. 94 per cent of companies in India are also engaged in building a good employer brand by having an active and transparent social media presence where they are constantly sharing their vision and mission for facilitating better understanding amongst people.
According to the report, 4 in 5 companies (80 per cent), which focused on employer branding, were successful in attracting the desired set of qualified candidates.
The report also suggested that compared to other Asia-Pacific countries, organizations in India are more open to hiring remote working staff.
It is also important to note that for employers, apart from mainstream emerging trends and existing Learning and Development programs in place, internal mobility, data-driven hiring decisions and improving employee experience will be top priorities for recruiters in 2021.
