Krishna Srinivasan, an Indian national, has been nominated Director of the Asia Pacific Department of the International Monetary Fund. On the 22nd of June, he will begin work in his new position.
Srinivasan has been with the organization for a long time, having previously served as Deputy Director. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said that Krishna Srinivasan has been an esteemed member of the Fund Family and has made innovative and essential contributions to the agency since 1994.
Srinivasan was entrusted to manage advances in major economies such as China, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, Mongolia, and numerous Pacific Island countries before taking over from current APAC Director Changyong Rhee, who announced his retirement plans in March.
He was Deputy Director at the Western Hemisphere Department before focusing on Asia Pacific, where he monitored the economy of Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and the Caribbean. He also worked at the IMF’s European Department as the UK and Israel’s mission chief, as well as in the Research Department, where he contributed to G20 studies.
